East Orange, NJ, March 16, 2018 - Mayor Ted R. Green, First Ward Councilwoman Amy Lewis and the East Orange Division of Senior Services will honor a dynamic group of 19 women who have made their mark in a variety of fields, including education, business, government, social services and more.
The distinguished honorees include:
Ruth Ashby, Toby Bess, Barbara Booker, Cynthia Brown, Dorothy Cole-Young, Gloria Conley, Fran Gray, Fannie Harrison, Annie Hayes, Gertrude Hendrix, Lady Ira, Marilyn Jones, Karen LaRussa, Diane McClurkin, Delores Reeves, Janice Riker, Sylvia Sherrod, Dr. Gloria P. Watson and Catherine F. Willis.
“In honor of Women’s History Month, we are proud to shine a spotlight on the women who over the years have made significant contributions in and around the City of East Orange,” said Mayor Green. “These remarkable women have truly blazed a trail for generations of young women to follow and I am honored to recognize their legacy of commitment and service in our community.”
The event, coordinated under the direction of Rita Butts, Manager of the Division of Senior Services, will be held at the East Orange Senior Center, 90 Halsted Street, East Orange, on Friday, March 23, 2018 from 12-4pm. Keynote speaker is Director of Public Safety Sheilah Coley. Donation is $5 and includes lunch.
