[ARCHIVED] City of East Orange to provide more than 6,000 free daily summer meals at 51 area site


East Orange, NJ, May 29, 2018: The City of East Orange will be participating in the 2018 Summer Food Service Program from June 25 to August 31, 2018. The USDA “Champion” Award winning program will operate 51 sites, serving over 6,900 meals daily.

The Summer Food Service Program is a federal program of the Food and Nutrition Services, United States Department of Agriculture. This program provides all children 18 years of age and under with the same free meal in accordance with a menu approved by the state agency. For a list of participating sites or more information on becoming a participating site, please visit: Select sites will serve snack at 2:00 pm, dinner at 5:00 pm and Saturday lunch at 1:00pm, including Oval Park, Elmwood Park, Memorial Park, Soverel Park, Rowley Park, Ampere Circle and two Essex County Parks: Watsessing and Westside.

In accordance with Federal civil rights law and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) civil rights regulations and policies, the USDA, its Agencies, offices, and employees, and institutions participating in or administering USDA programs are prohibited from discriminating based on race, color, national origin, sex, disability, age, and reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity in any program or activity conducted or funded by USDA.

Persons with disabilities who require alternative means of communication for program information (e.g. Braille, large print, audiotape, American Sign Language, etc.), should contact the Agency (State or local) where they applied for benefits. Individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing or have speech disabilities may contact USDA through the Federal Relay Service at (800) 877-8339. Additionally, program information may be made available in languages other than English.

To file a program complaint of discrimination, complete the USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form, (AD-3027) found online at:, and at any USDA office, or write a letter addressed to USDA and provide in the letter all of the information requested in the form.
