Mayor Ted Green, Members of East Orange City Council and Business Leaders Will Tour Local Shops on Small Business Saturday®

East Orange, NJ, Nov. 20, 2018: Mayor Ted Green will be joined by members of the East Orange City Council, the East Orange Chamber of Commerce and the Urban Essex Chamber of Commerce on Saturday, November 20th to participate in Small Business Saturday® and promote local shopping just in time for the holiday season.

Starting at 1pm, the group will visit three of East Orange’s smaller business districts ― the Ampere Business District, Sanford Avenue Business District from Elmwood Avenue to Tremont Avenue, and Lower Central Avenue shops from Grove Street to 18th Street, stopping for approximately 30 minutes in each area.

“Small businesses are the cornerstone of our city’s economy,” said Mayor Green, himself a local small business owner who has operated Green’s School of Martial Arts for nearly 30 years. “In East Orange, small business owners become part of our larger family and it is so important that we continue to support them and inspire others to do the same.”

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, New Jersey small businesses employed 1.8 million people which accounts for 49.8 percent of the private workforce. Small businesses throughout the state created 33,072 jobs in 2015 with retailers employing fewer than 20 employees contributing the largest gains, adding 22,698 jobs.
