East Orange, April 8, 2019: The City of East Orange will be joining cities throughout the state in celebrating NJ Local Government Week April 7-13, 2019.
Because local government is the government closest to most citizens, and the one with the most direct daily impact upon its residents, it is important that residents understand how their local government operates, the services it provides, and the importance of their active involvement.
“NJ Local Government Week is an opportunity to help our residents become more informed about the many services we provide, which will lead to more community engagement from residents of all ages,” said Mayor Ted R. Green. “One of my administration’s top priorities is bringing government to the people through my “Mayor on the Block” initiative which includes bi-weekly walks through targeted neighborhoods around the city. During these walks, we share information about resources, programs and events, we listen to concerns related to such issues as cleanliness, water, public safety, and health, and we identify and address property maintenance issues such as debris, city code violations, and abandoned housing on-the-spot. It is so important to ensure that the people who live and work in this community know who we are and that we are here to serve them.”
