EAST ORANGE, APRIL 1, 2020: Mayor Ted R. Green and Dr. Monique Griffith, Director of Health and Human Services, will host a third Virtual Town Hall call to discuss the latest updates on COVID-19 and answer live questions from residents in the City of East Orange. The weekly Telephone Town Hall addresses updates on confirmed positive cases of the coronavirus in East Orange and outlines the administration’s current response efforts to stop the spread of the virus throughout the community. Each week, Mayor Green and Dr. Griffith are joined by panelists representing different functions of the city that have been impacted by COVID-19 such as Dr. Anju Mehta, Chief Medical Officer at East Orange General Hospital; Dr. Deborah Harvest, Assistant Superintendent of the East Orange School District; Phyllis Bindi, Chief of Police; Solomon Steplight, City Administrator; and Christopher Coke, Director of Public Works. Joining the panel this week will be Dan Jennings, Director of Policy, Planning and Development, who will speak about new initiatives that support local entrepreneurs and discuss state regulations for the operations of essential and non-essential businesses.
Since they began, the teleconferences have reached over 20,000 residents and received nearly 1,500 questions from participants via the live FB feed.
“Our focus during this public health crisis is to make sure all of our residents are receiving accurate information on the impact COVID-19 is having in our community and raising awareness on how to help stop community spread,” said Mayor Green. “The coronavirus is changing how we live daily, and in order to fight this virus, it is important that all of our city resources come together to not just inform, but also to protect our residents and keep us safe. The after-effects of this pandemic will be long-term and we are proactively exploring opportunities to make sure our residents and businesses get the necessary economic support they need.”
Previous subjects covered during the Telephone Town Hall include the mandates of New Jersey’s “Stay at Home” Executive Order, the East Orange School District’s new virtual learning model, COVID-19 symptoms and testing sites, virtual city services and community resources.
