June 8, 2020, East Orange, NJ: Mayor Ted R. Green, the East Orange City Council and Friends have organized a peaceful rally and exercise of solidarity to support the national demands for justice against police brutality and an end to systemic racism in America.

The “Peace, But Not Patience” Walk and Rally will be held on Wed, June 10 at 1pm starting from Sussex Avenue Mall and ending at East Orange City Hall. With movements sweeping the nation after the murder of George Floyd and a new groundswell to propel the #BlackLivesMatter movement, many residents, community leaders and our young people are eager to unite for a cause that will indelibly change history.

Mayor Green coined the name of the rally to describe the underlying intent in planning a peaceful protest, but with an immediate call to action for enacting legislation and policies now and not later.

“We have been waiting for too long to see sweeping reforms in our justice system. While we can remain peaceful, patience is no longer an option,” said Mayor Green. “We stand with the Floyd family, and all victims of police brutality. It is time for change. We are standing on the right side of history and we will prevail.”
