East Orange, NJ, November 2, 2020: The City of East Orange will be collecting leaves between November 1, 2020- January 31, 2021. All leaves must be collected and stored in biodegradable paper leaf bags per city ordinance. The city will provide residents free five (5) biodegradable paper leaf bags per household per visit every fall. Bags may also be secured at home improvement stores.
There is no limit on the number of bags that residents and/or property owners may set out curbside as this is part of our Recycling Program. Residents can find the leaf collection schedule in the Solid Waste and Recycling Handbook or they can call (973) 266–5330 to confirm their scheduled leaf collection day.
Please be reminded that burning leaves or including leaves with household garbage are prohibited by state law. Raking the leaves into the street poses serious hazards including vehicular accidents and engineering issues including flooding and sewer back up. Federal and state environmental protection guidelines regulate the use of biodegradable paper leaf collection bags and violators will face penalties.
