East Orange, NJ, November 19, 2020: East Orange High School student Nyla Cheeseboro has been chosen as one of 10 students to compete in the final round of the Seton Hall High School Pirates Pitch business contest. The competition, which attracted 180 applicants from several states and over a dozen foreign countries, is being sponsored by Seton Hall University’s Stillman School of Business and Center for Entrepreneurial Studies.
Nyla, a sophomore at STEM Academy, successfully submitted her business proposal about an innovative product that she launched just a few months ago while a participant in the city’s Virtual SWEP Program, which was a collaboration between the City of East Orange, Seton Hall University and V.I.P. Online Academy. She will be pitching her natural skin care company, Slay Baby Slay, with a five-minute pitch about her company to a prominent panel of CEOs and proven entrepreneurs.
“We are thrilled and beyond proud of Nyla and how far she has made it in this competition,” said Mayor Ted R. Green. “The entire city is rooting for her and we will be watching on Friday.”
The “Shark Tank” like contest will be held virtually this coming Friday, November 20th from 3pm – 6pm as this week also marks Global Entrepreneurship Week 2020. The finalists are competing for cash prizes and scholarships up to $50,000. The sixth annual Seton Hall High School Pirates Pitch can be viewed using this link.
All qualifying finalists will receive at least $4,000 in tuition scholarships to attend Seton Hall. The top finalist will receive a $2,500 cash award and a $10,000 tuition scholarship. The second-place winner will receive a $1,000 cash award and a $6,000 scholarship. There will also be an Audience Choice Award of $250 to a finalist virtually selected during the event by parents, teachers, classmates and friends.
