MAYOR TED R. GREEN’S STATEMENT ON VIOLENCE AT THE NATION’S CAPITOL
"I am still wrapping my head around what I witnessed on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at our nation’s capitol. The blatant disregard and disrespect for a fair and cooperative transition to presidential power is an outrageous undermining of our freedom.
But it also reveals what many of us have known all along – America is still extremely racially divided and the mob violence in Washington, D.C. was a prominent reminder. What’s equally disturbing is to think about what could have happened if people of color stormed the White House in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. I believe there would have been far more bloodshed on the White House lawn. My heart goes out to those who risked their lives to protect the lives of those at the Capitol complex and may their perpetrators face the fullest extent of the law.
January 6, 2021 was a very dark day in America. Domestic terrorists tried to overthrow our government, but they failed. Democracy won! Now is the time to move forward with the Biden-Harris Administration and enter into a new year of healing, hope and progress"
