Full statement:

As we all look upon the recent events in Haiti, there is a deep sense of grief and dismay that fills our hearts. Our native land has become an unrecognizable terrain, and we are obligated to reconstruct this image.

As a Haitian-American Councilman for the City of East Orange representing the Third Ward and a member of the National Haitian American Elected Officials (NHAEON), I wish to extend my most profound and sincerest condolences to the Moïse family. Furthermore, I want to express my sorrow to the victims’ families who have lost their lives to ongoing kidnapping, violence, and heinous acts which plague the country.

This is an unprecedented time in our homeland and the diaspora. Solidarity and calm will be critical towards developing solutions. Our initiatives should focus on strategically cultivating relationships to revitalize Haiti’s foreign policy, reconstruct intergovernmental affairs, and eradicate the current gang activity.

While we collaboratively work to improve the current conditions for Haiti, let us all unite during this time of mourning and extend our heartfelt prayers for our brothers and sisters in Haiti.”
