East Orange, NJ, July 18, 2023: The East Orange Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs has kicked off its summer enrichment programming with a host of activities geared toward residents of all ages.
The activities include seven summer camps, four sports clinics, and swimming. The summer camps, which run from July 3-August 18, were designed for youth ages 3-15 to provide seven weeks of safe, fun, encouragement, enthusiasm, and enriching recreational experiences.
“Our goal is to create an atmosphere that encourages, enlightens, engages, and nurtures the very young. Campers will engage with new peers while participating in a variety of recreational activities that will empower them to feel confident about themselves while having fun,” said J. Jamal Pearson, Director of Recreation & Cultural Affairs.
The camps are:
- Hart/FCC Day Camp at Fresh Start Academy, ages 7-12
- Grow N’ Glow Camp at Rowley Park Fieldhouse, ages 3-6
- Co-Ed Small Fry Basketball Camp at Hart Middle Gym, ages 6-11
- Co-Ed Basketball Camp at Hart Middle Gym, ages 12-15
- Soccer Camp at Soverel Park, ages 7-14
- Cheer Camp at Hart Middle Gym, ages 7-14
- Tennis Camp at Elmwood Park, ages 8-15
Both residents and non-residents may attend East Orange Summer Camps. The cost for residents is $65/week and $125/week for non-residents.

- Tennis Clinic, July 17-Aug 28, Monday-Friday Soverel Park, Ages 8-14, 10am-1pm Elmwood Park, Ages 15-17 at 4pm-5pm, Seniors, Ages 55 and up at 5pm-6pm, Adults 18 and Up at 6pm-7pm
- Soccer Clinic, July 10-Aug 18, Ages 8-14, Monday-Friday Morning Session at Soverel Park, 10am-1pm Afternoon Session, Columbian Park, 4pm7pm
- Girls Softball Clinic, July 17-August 18, Ages 11-14, Monday-Friday, 1pm-4pm at Columbian Park
- Lacrosse Clinic, July 8-July 29, Ages 11-14, Every Saturday, 10am-11:30am at Columbian Park
East Orange seniors, ages 60 and up, can also enjoy water aerobics, games, snacks and free swim every Wednesday until August 23 at Haire Pool, 139 S. Grove Street, between 5-7pm. Pool passes also are available for purchase 10am-1pm and 2pm-5pm Monday-Friday at the Fellowship Civic Center. The cost of pool passes is $10 for ages 3-17, $20 for ages 18-61 and free for seniors ages 62 and up. Non-resident fees are $45 for children 3-17 and $75 for adults 18 and up. No appointment is needed.
