East Orange, NJ, July 6, 2017: The City of East Orange is proud to announce the grand opening of its new Clubhouse and Par 440 Restaurant & Lounge located at the East Orange Golf Course in Short Hills, NJ. The facility, which was built from the ground up following the renovation of the municipally-owned East Orange Golf Course, features a new Pro Shop and Par 440, which is operated by Mario LaVecchia, general manager of Above Restaurant in South Orange.

On Friday, July 7, 2017, at 6PM, join Mayor Lester E. Taylor III and the East Orange City Council at 440 Parsonage Hill Road in Short Hills to celebrate the grand opening. The event is free and everyone is welcome.

“The completion of this project is one of the most fulfilling of my administration,” said Mayor Lester E. Taylor III. “We took a gamble when we decided to close the course in 2014, but our gamble has paid off. The transformation of this golf course required the hard work and commitment of a solid team of experts who believed in our vision to set the standard for urban excellence and rebuild this asset into what it was intended to be -- a quality and accessible course for public play.”

The project team included Christopher Coke, Director of Public Works, Valerie Jackson, Director of Policy, Planning and Development, Golf Architect Stephen Kay, Golf Superintendent Juan Casiano, Dominick Marziani and Associates Architects, Maser Consulting, Turco Golf Construction and Precision Building and Construction.

After closing for renovations in 2014 and reopening in 2015, the East Orange Golf Course has made great strides in re-establishing the course as a premiere destination for the timeless game. Originally designed by Tom Bendelow in 1926, renowned golf architect Stephen Kay designed the course to restore the old-fashioned charm of the golf course and make it appealing to players of all abilities. As part of the renovations, the new facility features two newly-constructed golf holes, a driving range, and putting green.
