East Orange, NJ: The East Orange City Council recently recognized nine Jackson Academy students whose mock trial submission received 2nd place in the 2017 Law State Fair Competition sponsored by the New Jersey State Bar Foundation.

During the June 26th council meeting, the students were presented with a Certificate of Recognition for their first-time legal effort, which placed second out of more than 80 submissions statewide.

The mock trial case, which was based on an alleged trespassing incident involving a young girl playing the virtual game, Pokemon Go, was developed and role played by the students under the leadership of Quest Advisor and 4th Grade Teacher Ann White. The winning cases were presented before a presiding judge at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick in late May.

Participating students included 4th Grader Milan Sharp and 3rd Graders Aliyah Abdul-Hakim, Jalil Akinyele, Bernard Gray, Khloe Graham, Zhoe Martin, Lauren Moseley, Tamera Pullins and Tristan Wertz.
