EAST ORANGE, NJ, January 9, 2018: The City of East Orange is proud to announce the Inaugural “Together We Win” Interfaith Celebration, a program honoring the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The service, which is free and open to the public, will feature the one-person performance “MLK: The King Years from 7 to 37,” written and performed by Michael Green.

The event also will include student performances and an outdoor candlelight vigil. The event, to be held at City Hall Plaza, 44 City Hall Plaza, East Orange, NJ, will begin promptly at 5pm.

 “We are extremely proud to host this event at City Hall Plaza to honor the legacy of the great Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. who lived his life fighting for unity, faith, social justice and racial equality” said Mayor Ted R. Green. “Under his fearless leadership, people of all races, religions and creeds mobilized toward a common goal – progress. My administration’s vision is “One City, One Community, One Goal Equals Progress,” and I cannot think of a more befitting way to begin my tenure as mayor. On January 15^th, the entire East Orange community is invited to join us in remembering, reflecting and rejoicing in the powerful and purposeful messages of Dr. King.”

The featured performance, produced by Shades of Truth Theatre, is a one-person dramatic interpretation highlighting both the political and human side of the American civil rights icon, starting with his younger years to his most shining moment at The March on Washington.
