Mission & Purpose
The Mayor's Office of Employment and Training has a primary focus, to service unemployed low to middle income adults, seniors and disabled residents of the City of East Orange.
Our program offers employment activities and training that will maximize the opportunities for a career to obtain entry level/professional jobs and achieve their goal of self-worth and independence through providing a new career.

Clients will receive an introduction to services, as well as assistance in completing the required forms to determine eligibility for specific programs offered throughout the Employment and Training/Workforce Development System. Free Skills Training Courses
New to our Division is the offering of free skills training courses. There will be "Skills Training Seminars" to announce the beginning of each training course and alert the public of the upcoming opportunities. The training programs will provide participants who successfully complete the training with a new career.How to Enroll

Training Courses
The Mayor's Office of Employment and Training provides funding for training with our partner organizations. Contact our office at 973-677-8914 for a current list of training opportunities.Job Club
The Job Club is a series of workshops that will assist our clients with their job search, covering topics from proper grooming and dress and how to nail your interview. Job developers are also available to help edit and revise resumes. You must be registered as a client with our office to participate in Job Club.Annual Summer Work Experience Program
The Summer Work Experience Program (SWEP) and the College Intern Program are components of the City of East Orange's Youth Work Initiative. The program is primarily funded by the City of East Orange with the participation of the private sector that has provided job opportunities for our youth. It is a 6 week long summer employment program for youths of ages 14 - 24 who are East Orange residents. An average of 200 participants are placed in private and public sector jobs; i.e. local non-profit agencies, the Municipal Court and City Departments every year.The Program is Now Open!
