Mission & Purpose


The Division of Inspections and Code Enforcement is responsible for the administration of the Code of the City of East Orange that establish minimum standards governing the maintenance, appearance, conditions, and occupancy of residential and non-residential premises.

Notices


Following inspections, Property Maintenance issues a Notice of Code Violations to the responsible party, who is most often the owner. The Notice lists all observed violations and allows an appropriate amount of time for the responsible party to correct the violations.


Summons

When violations are not corrected within the time allocated on a Notice of Code Violations, a summons to appear in court is issued against the responsible party (or parties).

Violations are punishable by fines not less than $100 or a maximum fine not to exceed $2,000 for each offense.

All applications must be submitted in person to the Department of Property Maintenance located at:

Paying Application Fees

Any associated fees must be made payable to the City of East Orange by:
  • Certified check
  • Money order
  • No cash is accepted for the payment of associated fees.
